"Because objects of art are expressive, they are a language. Rather they are many languages. For each art has its own medium and that medium is especially fitted for one kind of communication." John Dewey Art as an Experience 1934.
Monotype is the painterly method of printmaking. The uniqueness in monotypes is the translucent colors are very different from a painting on paper or a print, and the beauty of this media is its spontaneous combination of printmaking, painting and drawing mediums. The result is a one-of-a-kind image that is developed on a flat plate with oil, ink, or water-based medium then transferred onto paper. The transfer can be done either by hand or a press. Most of my prints transform into mixed media with colored pencil and pen. |
